Frank tossed a Pokéball back and forth between his hands. He gazed upon the unmarked truck, which had been his faithful companion for several months now, with a sense of bittersweet wistfulness. [break][break]

"Goodbye, Gertie," he began, as if giving a eulogy. "You were a great truck. Super dependable, quiet, and really smooth driving. But now our days have come to an end, and we're going to replace you with a different truck." [break][break]

The League had finally tagged the vehicle and linked it with Team Rocket's smuggling operations, so Frank had to get rid of it. What better way than to destroy it with his Pokémon? His Buzzwole emerged from its vessel, ready to smash metal to smithereens. [break][break]

"All right, Leon. This is the truck I mentioned. Go ham!" [break][break]

Stepping up to the vehicle, the Ultra Beast cracked its knuckles, cranked back an arm, and punched with all its might. [break][break]

Cillian's been stressed of late. Impending war and a heavy work schedule would do that to a man, especially one who'd slept as shit as him lately. He still woke in the night to cold sweats and a pounding heart, expecting to find a chain wrapped around his throat.[break][break]

So the task of destroying evidence, ordinarily left to the grunts, sounds like heaven to him. Catharsis.[break][break]

"Gertie?" He chuckles at Frank Caffey's eulogy, then arches a brow at the Pokémon that's sent out. "Damn, man, where'd you pick that thing up? He's got bigger muscles than Temp."[break][break]

Another laugh, and Cillian sends out his Breloom. She might not have looked like much, and was much smaller than the Buzzwole that sinks its massive fist into the car to a chorus of rending metal, but Psellia was a boxer and a SHADOW POKEMON besides. Her SKY UPPERCUT swings for one of the doors.[break][break]

Finishing his cigarette, Cillian picks up a bat.[break][break]

"Why should we let them have all the fun, right?"[break][break]

"A while ago in the Ultra Desert," Frank replied, watching his Buzzwole's work with pride, his hands on his hips. "I don't get the chance to bring it out very often but for this kind of work? It'll get the job done quick." [break][break]

In the corner of his eye, he noticed Cillian picking up a baseball bat. [break][break]

"What, but you didn't bring me anything to use?" Frank laughed, obviously unbothered. [break][break]

He peered between Buzzwole and Breloom to assess the damage so far, then turned a cheeky grin upon Cillian. "Better get in there before our Pokémon smash the car to smithereens. Between the two of them, they look almost done." [break][break]

"You went to the Desert?" He shouldn't be surprised; he and Frank were cut from the same cloth where danger was concerned. Nothing could spike the adrenaline faster. "Only been once or twice myself. Spent most of my time in the damn Deep Sea. Hate that place."[break][break]

But there's not as much of a bite to his tone as there might've been before. The Deep Sea would forever be a part of him now thanks to the experience that had further corrupted him.[break][break]

Shadowed claws leave slight scars in the bat's handle, but it's otherwise in decent shape even after Cillian puts it through the front windshield. He lets out a whoop and offers Frank a grin and the bat.[break][break]

"Sharing is caring, or whatever my mother never bothered to tell me."

His Breloom's fists crackle with energy, a sharp boom of THUNDER accenting her punch. Thankfully, in a warehouse district such as this, loud noises were hardly uncommon.[break][break]

Leon the Buzzwole punched through a window, sending shards of glass flying. The Ultra Beast didn't seem phased by the injuries or the bleeding, moving on to the next window instead. [break][break]

"Hey, leave one for me!" Frank called out as he accepted the baseball bat from Cillian. Violet eyes swept over the shadowed claws of his friend's hand and the marks they made in the bat, but Frank made no comment. [break][break]

Team Rocket's leadership were equal parts dangerous and bizarre. It was better for him not to ask questions. [break][break]

"It's about what you'd expect: blisteringly hot and there's sand everywhere. You could go to Hoenn's own desert and get pretty much the same experience," Frank said instead. "Ultra Deep Sea, now… I've heard crazy stories about that place." [break][break]

"Other than the monoliths and the weird obelisks, I guess you're right." He scoffs. "Though I guess Hoenn's desert could be hiding all kinds of weird shit, too."[break][break]

Cillian tried to avoid the desert when he could; Hoenn was hot enough already. If he did go, he preferred to do so at night, when cooler air rolled across the sands.[break][break]

To the Deep Sea, he'd rather never go again.[break][break]

"Was the Deep Sea where I got my new powers." In demonstration, he swipes his claws upward as though tossing a tennis ball. Shadowy spikes slam up from beneath the vehicle, piercing it from below. The SHADOW RAVE fades, taking some of his energy with it. "Bunch of Nihilego swarmed me. Nasty little fuckers, those. You ever seen them? Creepy things that look a bit like... uh, Tentacruel, maybe."[break][break]

Frank stood back as shadows ripped into the doomed vehicle. A fearful dread shuddered through him, and the little hairs all over his body stood on end at the sight. [break][break]

May I never give Cillian a reason to use those powers on me, Frank swore to himself, even as he flashed his friend an amazed smile. "That's fucking crazy," he said out loud. [break][break]

In his hands, the baseball bat continued to dent the truck's walls. By then, however, it had become little more than a pile of scrap. [break][break]

"I've seen pictures of Nihilego, yeah. They look kind of cool, but if you say they're nasty, then I believe you." Frank paused as he glanced back over at Cillian. "How exactly did you fend them off?" [break][break]

The rest of them had nearly killed him. "Lugia," he confesses. "Just had to let her in." His veins pulse with purple corruption, the toxic consequence of his choice. "The claws can be a little annoying, I haven't figured out how to put 'em away yet."[break][break]

He laughs, bright, and scores them through a door hanging off its hinges.[break][break]

Frank's eyes crinkled with mirth at the thought of Cillian being anything close to a maternal figure. But he made no comment on it. He was not exactly a model parent, either, considering he didn't have access to his own children. [break][break]

"So Lugia saved you and made you like that," Frank said instead, his tone contemplative as he watched Cillian rip the truck's door off its hinges. "Remind me never to get on your bad side, yeah? Between you and Lugia, I don't know that I'd last long." [break][break]

The grunt laughed, then surveyed the rest of the car. "I think we're pretty much done. Are we just leaving it here or are we lighting it on fire, or something?" [break][break]
